What is DSpice?

DSpice is an open-source tool for designing and simulating electronic circuits using SPICE. It leverages ngspice as its core simulation backend and provides a modern, intuitive interface directly inside Visual Studio Code.

Draw your schematic, run OP / Transient / AC analyses, inspect waveforms, and even script your workflow with Python — all without leaving your editor.

Note: DSpice is currently in Alpha stage. Some features may be incomplete or unstable. Feedback is highly appreciated!

Installation

Follow these steps to install the DSpice extension in Visual Studio Code:

Open Visual Studio Code
Launch VS Code on your machine.

Go to Extensions
Press Ctrl + Shift + X (or click the Extensions icon on the left sidebar).

Open the Extensions Menu
Click on the "..." (More Actions) button at the top of the Extensions panel.

Select "Install from VSIX..."
Choose the option "Install from VSIX..." from the dropdown menu.

Choose the DSpice File
Browse and select the file: dspice-circuit-simulator-0.1.6.vsix
Or open the search bar Marketplace and type DSpice to find the extension.

Restart VS Code
After installation completes, reload the window to activate the extension.

  • Visual Studio Code version 1.70 or higher
